Common Mental Health Disorders for College Students

The majority of mental health disorders that college students experience are quite common beyond the academic environment because it always comes down to high levels of stress and physical exhaustion. Still, the true problems are often ignored as learners believe that things will get better or that the challenges can be swept under the proverbial carpet before it’s too late and the curriculum and relationships are already damaged. Starting with depression and anxiety to body image problems and self-proclaimed isolation, college students are always on the radar of mental problems.

Common Mental Health Disorders for College Students

  • Depression and Anxiety.

It’s the most common mental health disorder that occurs with the same frequency among seniors and first-year college students. The reasons for that include living far from home, feeling frightened of the unknown (and hostile) environment, coping with endless tasks, and dealing with finances. The anxiety is always caused by meeting deadlines. If you want to manage your academic stress, consider Lets Grade It as an option and see what kind of assistance you may get. When you have an expert who can help you get things done on time when you are tired or busy, it takes at least half of the problems away as you learn differently. Many students report that they became less depressed and anxious when they turned out for academic assistance online.

  • Substance Abuse.

This includes smoking, alcohol, and dealing with illegal substances. Unfortunately, college students often become victims of the negative culture or follow the hype during college parties. It has an apparent negative effect on college grades and personal life. If you see a person in trouble or face a substance abuse challenge yourself, you should call the anonymous hotline, and turn to your friends or relatives for help. Do not be afraid to ask for help with the addiction, advice how to deal with it, and overcome it. No one will judge you.

  • Relationship Problems and Anger Management.

When you are dealing with sudden emotional outbursts or fail to communicate with people without turning to anger, it is a serious issue that must be addressed. As mental health disorders for college students are discussed, communication problems and failing relationships are often ignored or taken under the common umbrella of depression. In truth, it’s not entirely correct as relationship problems often occur because of PTSD and/or past traumas. It takes a trained expert to help you identify the problem before you find a solution and work on the ways how your mental health objectives can be achieved.

  • Body Image Issues.

Anorexia is quite common among college students these days as they starve themselves to exhaustion. It’s always a mental factor that affects the metabolism negatively. The same mental health issue relates to those learners with overweight problems, which is quite common during the first year of studies when turning to snacks seems to be the only solution. As a rule, it leads to depression and a decrease in academic credentials. This issue can be addressed with the help of individual or group coaching, depending on the situation.

Why Can’t We Settle Things Down Alone?

If you are feeling stressed beyond belief and your stomach hurts as the exam is about to start, it’s quite normal to feel this way since you can take the medication or simply meditate by going through the list of special rituals. We all have been there and these problems and challenges usually get back to normal. Now, if these issues are affecting your life all the time and the sense of fear and alienation stand by your side like a guard dog, it is essential to ask for help!

You cannot settle things down on your own because it takes a professional who can find the reason and help you talk it out. Asking for help is not shameful or humiliating in any way because this is what relevant specialists are for! If you are in a challenging situation or you know a good friend in trouble, remember that there is a lot you can do! Do not sit in silence but discuss things together and seek a solution that works!
