In the early 90’s, I was living in Houston, Texas. I was just coming to town to see my brother and my sister-in-law and their son. They lived in a house that was on two levels, which gave them a very nice view over the city. The upper level was very nice and spacious, but it was built in the 1930’s, so it was old, it was dated, and it was a little bit dangerous.
Nowadays people are living in modern houses and that’s the main reason why we like living in apartments. If we had to design a house specifically for us, we’d probably call it a duplex, but that’s not what people are used to right now. They live in big houses, but they still live in apartments.
Today, we might call apartment living a luxury, but apartment living isn’t a luxury in any other sense. It’s simply not possible that you could live in an apartment that is really large, a great deal of space, and has a lot of amenities.
But if you were to design a house specifically for you, then you probably would call it a duplex. We are not sure exactly what this term actually means, but its the same as a condo. So if your apartment is actually a duplex, the difference in size, the way the ceilings are spaced (and the walls are spaced), the way the windows are spaced, the way the doors are spaced, etc., would make one duplex not the other.
A duplex is a two-floor home. That is a lot of space to be shared. A duplex with a lot of amenities (pool, separate master and common areas, etc) would be a lot more expensive than a home with a lot of space and a lot of amenities. A duplex without amenities would be a lot more expensive than a home with a lot of space and with amenities.
I guess that’s what I’m saying, duplexes with amenities are better for the common area because they have a lot of common spaces. If they have a lot of space, then they might not be in the same location as a duplex with amenities.
The duplex example above is a great example of a single-family home in a neighborhood that has amenities. If you have two houses together, that house with amenities is likely to be closer to the home with amenities, which means that the amenities will have more overhead. If your home has only one bathroom, that one bathroom with amenities will likely have a lot more overhead to handle.
In my world, having amenities is really important so that people can feel like their home is more than just an apartment. This is especially true of single-family homes in neighborhoods that have amenities. A single-family home with amenities is likely to be closer to the single-family home with amenities than the other house in the neighborhood.
The amenities feature has made a lot of sense from a marketing perspective. It doesn’t really come from the “should we paint our new construction home?” perspective because it has a lot of overhead, but rather because it’s a good way to add more value to a home.
An apartment is a home that is not a single-family home, and as such, does not have amenities. So you can paint your home and your kitchen and laundry room, and in a sense you can paint your whole house, and in a sense you can paint your entire home. However, you have to paint your entire house at once, and that can put a lot of pressure on the home.
