The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.

In the case of lobbyists, it’s not just that they get paid in cash. The people who they lobby are also paid in office. The fact that they lobby is a form of political representation. Think of it like when a politician gets elected, but isn’t actually voting. He’s just representing constituents in the most direct and personal way possible.
Think of lobbyists like the people who were on a bus for a certain amount of time. They don’t stop to eat, they dont stay in one place, they constantly update their phone number. They are constantly checking it. You cant simply stop a bus, so you have to be constantly on it.
The fact of the matter is, however, that lobbyists, also known as “soft money”, are often directly paid by lobbyists for their services. That money is then used to lobby the government, which is exactly what lobbyists are paid to do. The money goes straight into campaigns to influence the political process.
Lobbyists are the most common type of non-elected government official. They are the people that are the most directly involved in the process of getting laws passed, or not, through the governmental process. In terms of lobbying, lobbyists are the ones that are most directly paid by lobbyists in their roles. They get paid based on how much they are able to influence their respective government representatives.
So lobbying can involve the most direct forms, such as a phone call, in which you are given a script detailing what you are supposed to say and what you are supposed to avoid saying, what you are supposed to do, and how much money you will have to pay in order to do what you are told.
That’s a good point, but what about indirect forms like mail, which is typically the most subtle form of lobbying? If your boss is a former government official, then when he or she calls you, you may know what your boss is going to say. If your boss is a politician, then you may not.
That said, there is a big difference between lobbying through a third party like a campaign or a super PAC, and through an elected official. In the first case, the lobbyist can get support from the official, but that support is likely conditional upon the official’s personal approval. In the second case, the lobbyist has to get the approval of the actual elected official.
