Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, also known as Nas, is an American rapper. He was born on September 14th, 1973 in Queensbridge New York. So when is his birthday? It’s the 14th of September every year! Nas had a difficult upbringing and often found himself around gang violence and drug dealing from an early age. He started to hone his skills by taking up poetry lessons at 12 years old. Nas has had a successful career with 15 solo studio albums, and one collaborative album in addition to his work as the leader of hip-hop group The Firm alongside Foxy Brown and AZ. He is also known for being featured on remixes by artists such as Madonna or Destiny’s Child. Nas was listed number 25 on MTV’s Greatest MCs of all time list naming him in their Top Five Hip Rock Artists List too!

He has won numerous awards throughout his career including four Grammys (one for Best Rap Album, two for Best R&B Song, and one for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration), three from American Music Awards (including one win each: Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist award; Favorite Soul/R&B Album award; Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist award), and one from the UK Music Video Awards (Best Group Award).

His parents were both African American: his mother a schoolteacher and musician of Jamaican heritage whose family came from Kingston, Jamaica to live with her sister in Brooklyn when she was two years old; and his father an emigrant from Nassau, Bahamas who had abandoned him at birth.

The song ‘NY State Of Mind’ from this album is about Nas’ life growing up in Queensbridge which he calls “one big project building” and talks about some other things that make it difficult to grow up there like dealing drugs or being labeled an outsider because you come from where I come from”. Nas has had sixteen Grammy nominations and won one for his song ‘I Can’ from the album Stillmatic which was released in 2001.”

In 2008 he became a part of NASHVILLE-based production team The Heavyweights alongside Dallas Austin, Chucky Thompson, Cool & Dre, and Shea Taylor. This also includes work with Kanye West on Graduation”
