Reasons why photographers prefer Mac for editing

The first Macintosh (or Mac) was introduced in 1984, but it wasn’t until 1998 that it became popular among consumers. With the launch of Apple iMac, the brand’s popularity grew, and the company solidified its place in the market. With the release of their 2001 iPod, the company was infused with a new lease of life, coinciding with the exploding success of digital photography.

Meanwhile, Windows released several mediocre operating systems, including XP and Vista. By the time Windows 7 was introduced, they had already got a bad reputation in the photography community. As a result, more and more photographers scooped up Mac computers for editing and perfecting their photos and videos for digital consumption.

If you’re not convinced and confused between a Windows PC and a Mac computer, here are a few reasons why the latter is superior and a better choice.

1. Photo editing capabilities & Mac

Are you on the hunt for a computer that doesn’t have slider lag? Imports pictures like a dream? Exports pictures and renders them in a few seconds? Or, lets you view preview updates quickly? If you’ve answered yes to all of them, Macs are the ideal option for you.

Macs take photo editing to the next level. Photos is the built-in editor that comes with Macs. It offers a set of robust editing tools that perform several tasks similar to Photoshop’s Camera RAW or Lightroom’s Develop Module. What’s more, you can access some of the best photo editing apps for Mac, such as Luminar, Apple Photos, Preview, etc. You’ll never run out of photo editing software options when using a Mac.

2. Mac’s display

The scintillating display is one of the coveted features of Mac computers. Macs come with high-resolution retina displays that are sharp, vivid and pixel-perfect. The incredible screen allows photographers to view every minute detail in their photographs. Thanks to the perfect color rendition, photographers can safely re-touch and edit their photos, knowing that whatever they’re seeing is the true representation of their photographs.

A powerful computer display is particularly important when you need to print the photographs to display them in your home or your studio.

3. Incredible video editing proficiency

Most photographers enjoy turning their music, uncut sequences and still pictures into finished videos or films. Truth be told, video editing is a time-consuming process, which requires a lot of power. Thankfully, the Mac battery lasts longer, and the user experience that comes with the GUI of Mac computers is considered excellent by creative professionals. Furthermore, Macs are compatible with some potent video editing software like Final Cut Pro.

4. Long-lasting battery performance

For photographers, mobility is a crucial factor. They often need to travel in places with no access to power. Therefore, besides the weight and size consideration, photographers and videographers need a computer or laptop that comes with potent battery power. Typically, PCs last for about two to three hours on a single charge, but Macs can last for up to seven to eight hours.

That’s why seasoned photographers use Mac to take advantage of their long battery performance.

5. Viruses and malware isn’t a cause of major concern

Viruses and malware are surely a cause of concern because they can attack your device and destroy it. Certain viruses are designed to steal your information. So if you’re a professional photographer, you’ll need to safeguard your work and ensure to work on a device that’s resistant to cyber-attacks. That’s where Macs come in handy. Most viruses and malware are designed to attack Windows PCs, and they are unlikely to attack Macs.

One of the reasons cybercriminals target Windows PCs more than Macs is the increased usage of Windows PCs. The end goal of the hackers is to carry out DOS and mass-hacking attacks, and therefore, Macs rarely fall under their radar. Another reason is Mac’s enhanced privacy and security features that make Mac computers resistant to virus attacks.

Macs have in-built tools that offer protection, and every time an app is downloaded, Mac checks it against all the known malware apps.

6. Easily run Windows on Mac

Photographers working on Windows PCs are generally apprehensive of switching to a Mac. But that needn’t be a concern at all because you can easily run Windows on your Mac computer. On the other hand, you cannot run the Mac software anywhere other than a Mac computer. So, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Conclusion

Macs come equipped with several photo and video editing tools that make them appealing to professional photographers. Besides their imposing display, they also offer impressive battery performance and incredible resistance to viruses and malware attacks. Given the reasons mentioned above, it is easy to see why pro photographers prefer Mac for fulfilling their editing needs.
