What do you do when the levee breaks? The city of New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This storm brought with it a massive amount of water which flooded homes and businesses, as well as schools and churches. Residents didn’t know how to protect themselves from this natural disaster. Here are five ways to make sure your family is safe when the levee breaks!

-place a flashlight and battery-operated radio near your bedside. You’ll want to be able to see anything coming into your room at night in case you have trouble breathing or need help getting out of the house. If there is a power outage due to a storm, this will probably be all that’s left functioning!

-have an evacuation plan for every member of your family prepared ahead of time so when disaster strikes, you know exactly where everyone is going and how they’re going to get there (including pets!). This way there won’t be any confusion during the emergency.

Donate blood if it helps relieve worries about loved ones who may need transfusions after being rescued from flooded buildings–you might just save someone else’s life with the donation.

Stock up on supplies after the hurricane and get ready for anything that may happen in your area–even if it’s sunny outside, you never know when a storm is brewing!
