This film is based on the original 60s show where Robert McCall (played by Denzel Washington) acted as a hired assassin who used his tradecraft skills to help people he felt were being mistreated or abused because they didn’t have access to other ways of recourse. In this movie, McCall helps a young woman who was abducted and put into sex trafficking.
The Equalizer is a series of American television programs that are based on the 1980s films starring Denzel Washington. The shows tell about McCall, an ex-CIA Black Ops officer turned vigilante when he puts himself in harm’s way to help others at risk or becoming victimized by injustice. In “Equalizer I” (premiered September 26, 1985) McCall wants out of this life but can’t as long as there were people who needed his assistance but couldn’t ask for it because they don’t know him personally. So he assumes the identity of Robert Trench so that he could work through contacts from his former CIA days to solve cases and keep tabs on the dealings of a major criminal enterprise.
In “Equalizer II” (premiered September 25, 1989) McCall is approached by a woman who reminds him of someone from his past. He becomes suspicious when he learns that she wants to help her sister–who was also run over by the same car as another young child in their hometown several years ago and never recovered. Realizing what this means for both women’s lives, McCall decides to protect them with all his resources even if it costs him everything because they don’t deserve to be forgotten or victimized again. But things come full circle when he realizes that these recent events are just one piece in a much larger puzzle–one which may threaten the country itself if not stopped soon enough.
The Equalizer II
An American television show that first premiered on September 25, 1989. It is a sequel to the 1985-1989 TV series The Equalizer in which Robert McCall (Edward Woodward) was an intelligence operative who used his skills as a troubleshooter when called upon by clients with problems best dealt with outside of normal law enforcement channels. In the new version, Robert McCall’s efforts are now split between “The Company” and those he arranges private contracts for via telephone from his office/apartment. He uses equal parts coercion and violence to prove himself unstoppable in order to protect these people without any cost or liability incurred by them.
In this season we will see more of how ‘The Company’ – aka Section Chief Samuels (Jamey Sheridan) and his ace in the hole, Agent Henno Garvie- operates as well.
