Most people know the chorus but may not know how to sing it correctly. We’ll share some insider tips on singing this song for when you’re 64 years old!
In the chorus, when your voice goes up to high F at the end of “I’ll be there” you should sing that note for two beats.
After singing “when I’m 64,” repeat those words twice before going into an A flat on “years old.”
Repeat the same song structure in bars 13 and 14.
The chord progression is Amaj/Gmin (xA) Gsus Dbmaj Cmaj as well as a lot of other chords!
When I’m Sixty Four Lyrics
[Verse]: My dear my darling one thing more /As we grow older, grows our love stronger And what it means to me /
[Chorus]: I’ll be there when you’re lonely / I’ll be there when you want love/Just remember I’m always waiting for you
[Verse]: My dear my darling one thing more
As we grow older, grows our love stronger And what it means to me
[Chorus]: I’ll be there when you’re lonely When your arms need a hug from someone who cares. Just remember I’m always waitin’ just around the corner for ya [Bridge]: When your hands get too full of living and all life’s disappointments seem like heavy loads And nothing seems worth fighting any more than call on me, neighbor and friend. You know that I will carry on as long as you’re living.
[Chorus]: You know that I will carry on As long as your still livin’ just around the corner from ya [Bridge]: When life gets too much and we find ourselves burnin’ out Then call on me friend and neighbor to help share in all of your burdens. You know that I will care until someday when my journey is over
And my dear one stops waitin’. Until then if everything should start to get strange, Just remember who sings this song: If not now then when? It doesn’t matter if everybody else can see how strong our love can be
Just wait for the right moment when I’m 64. I know you’re standing next to me in my time of need
And that’s when I really wanna say: You knew all along just what it is that we are goin’ through, So please don’t forget now and then when everything should turn cold Just remember who sings this song: If not now then when? It doesn’t matter if every other person knows how strong our love could have been The only thing they’ll see is a memory of us burning up together as one
[Chorus]
You know that I will care until someday when my journey is over And my dear one stops waiting. Until then if everything should start to get strange, I just hope that you’re still there when I’m 64
I just hope that till here with me after all this time (x16) and I’ve got nothing left but the memories of how they used to be .. cause is long gone now.. in a world where nobody knows who I am anymore… so please stay close don’t let go…
When I’m 64 is a song sung by The Beatles in their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the first track of side two on the original vinyl LP version and when released as an A-side single in 1975 to promote that year’s reissue of the album.
The inspiration for “When I’m Sixty-Four” came from Paul McCartney hearing his father talking about retirement at age sixty-four (which he later reached). He began writing this tune with John Lennon during one night while they were working together day and night; it was written around fall 1965 or early 1966.
