I was in high school when I first realized that God was speaking to me. He would wink at me when I did something good, or when someone said something nice about me. It wasn’t always clear what he wanted from me, but it felt like he had a plan for my life and I just needed to follow his lead. One day, the other kids got in trouble for saying mean things about another student; they were teasing her because of how she looked and dressed. They made fun of her glasses too – which actually happened to be some of my favorite frames! When they told their friends what they’d done, one girl who hadn’t been there called them out on it: “You guys are so mean!” The others tried to justify it, but she countered with: “God winks at you when you’re mean. What did he wink about for this?”
When I first read that passage from the Bible study, I thought of my own experiences and how God had been teaching me all along through them – not just by winking at me when I was right or good, but also when someone else said something nice about me or when He helped make up a song in an important moment. It felt like He was telling me that there is divine love between us because we are so much alike; both made in His image! when god winks at you! What does this mean? It is a metaphor that can be used when God has given you something–a blessing, an opportunity.
“When I was on my way home from work one day, I found out that there had been a head-on collision just a few blocks away. The police were still blocking off the scene so it would take me about 30 minutes or more before I could get onto Chestnut Street again. When I finally got back into my neighborhood, all of the streets leading up to mine were blocked by emergency vehicles as well.”
“.If someone sneezes they say “bless you.” If someone is awarded a medal for bravery, they say “bless you.” When I was on my way home from work one day, God winked at me and sent me in the right direction. He didn’t guarantee that there wouldn’t be any accidents but he did give me many more options to choose from than if I had continued in the wrong direction.”
