A collection of nostalgia to remind us that the best decade ever is now just a memory. Welcome to the time capsule.
This article will explore 11 things from the 1990s that kids these days can’t even comprehend, and 10 more things we bet they don’t remember at all. So, take a trip down memory lane with us as we reminisce about our favorite decade and laugh (or cringe) at how different life was back then–it’ll be fun!
Things 90s Kids Can’t Comprehend:
That people ever had to plug in their TVs for them to work (or that they didn’t have remote controls)
Watching TV without cable or satellite and only having three channels available at any given time. Weighing the pros of watching Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and PBS against one another was quite a feat!
That everything from your daily life wasn’t being filmed and put on the internet
Knowing that sending fax meant actually going to an office building or store, not just pressing two buttons on a phone. Or figuring out how to use one of those machines at all!
Having cell phones without cameras or apps? Those were so hard to live without!
Watching VHS tapes in order to see their favorite TV show instead of it streaming online (or even worse: DVDs!)
No such thing as Skype calls, FaceTime chats, text messages with emojis thrown into the mix—just talking face to face like human beings. And having no way of knowing if someone was lying about where they were or what they were doing.
Dressing up for school in a uniform, or even worse: wearing your bathing suit under the clothes because it was still summer!
Having to remember how many quarters you had just so that you could play video games at an arcade. And then having to get change when your balance ran out? We can’t imagine what life would be like now without our wallets!
Forgetting about things like floppy disks and VCRs—or at least not knowing anything about them. Or if they are real, not understanding why anyone might want one of those bad boys today.
Talking on payphones instead of hitting up people through text messages or social media (which also didn’t exist!)
Getting up to change the TV channel from whatever your parents were watching, and then hearing them yell at you because they wanted “their show” back
Getting a kick out of preteen celebrities like TLC or Britney Spears
Reading books for school assignments instead of reading articles online
And last but not least, getting up to change the TV channel from whatever your parents were watching.

Or anything about it!
Forgetting about things like floppy disks and VCRs—or at least not knowing anything about them.
Having no idea what social media is or how anyone would use those platforms in their life today – Getting picked on for being different than “cool” people in school (which isn’t really any better now)
The first time you felt confident was probably after puberty hit and you had developed more of a personality
The first time you realized that there were people who looked just like you but still had a different skin tone and your world changed
And the first time when men stopped calling women “girls”.

Getting off school early on Wednesdays for “early release days” to go play with friends.
Admiring how cool it was to have an AOL screen name back in 1997. (Remember…we didn’t have cell phones!)
If you grew up during this decade then these memories will undoubtedly bring back something special for you.
So, what are your thoughts on the 90s? What other things can you remember about this decade that’s now long gone but still feels so close to our hearts?
